Re: Plugin/Hack: Albumpattern
Hi everyone,
I have been working on albumpattern, making a few changes that I need, i.e. resizing the image to a maximum number of pixels in any one direction without distortion e.g. resize an image to 500 px so that if the height is greater than the width, then the height is limited to 500px, and the width is thus smaller proportionally. I also modified the thumbnail generation for the GD module to be the same as the imagemagick module – i.e. capture the thumbnail from the centre of the rectangular photo (where 9/10 the subject of the photo actually is) – this is much better than capturing the thumbnail from the start of the image and so cutting out the subject.
So, the question is, has anyone been able to get in contact with greenrift (or been contactable lately?), so I can pass these changes to him for consideration? Also – is anyone actually interested in these changes?
Tell me you thoughts on this. Albumpattern has turned out to be really good :)
Cheers!

It would be great to see Albumpattern developed further on! Still using other gallery scripts because of their better features in image resizing etc. but I´d be more than happy to lose them and do everything within Textpattern.

500 articles are too much for me because the overview is not the best. Is there a way to switch that of?</blockquote>
Other thing, well actually the biggest thing keeping me for not to use Albumpattern is noted above. Let´s say about 1000 blog posts and then you add there 500 acticles generated by Albumpattern. Big no.

Re: Plugin/Hack: Albumpattern
Presumably, Marshall/Rifty cruises the forums from time to time. Then again, maybe not.
But if he does: what would be great is getting an announcement on this, re. the situation and its future development. Its quite sad if the great work done so far gets no further, and I suspect another clever person would be interested in taking the code and developing it, so long as Marshall agrees to that. Its not the first time this has happened – for whatever reason, someone can’t continue with a project and someone else takes it over.

Re: Plugin/Hack: Albumpattern
I think it’s time to support greenrift for further development of this plug-in. It’s really a pitty how slow this develops and how many bugs and obvious feature requests, whatever, still exist. There seem to be a few programmers who are capable and willing to accelerate this. Work together please! Albumpattern is for a lot of users the Gallery plugin of choice. It’s not “Whoaaa yeah pay for Flickr” for everyone. I don’t want Flickr. I have 60GB disc space on my Rootie, I don’t give a damn on outsourcing images. But I had enough trouble getting one of the first realeases of Albumpattern working. It did work fine until the next TXP update. Now my gallery is off for more than a year. I’m not going to hack and maybe destroy everything again. So please, greenrifts interest and time has limits. Everybody understands that. Find a way to get this fine piece of Plugin rolling on together!
Thx a lot.

Re: Plugin/Hack: Albumpattern
I have to agree. From experimenting with this plug-in it is one of the best that I have come across. It is a real shame that development has all but ground to a halt, but as you says Greenrift only has so much time to work on his different projects.
I’m currently working on a site that will make extensive use of Albumpattern for its handling of images and albums. My main concern is after all the effort I have put in; will it still work with the next version of Textpattern? While working with Albumpattern I get error messages every time I install it but it still seems to work regardless.
I to would like to see Albumpattern to carry on being developed and additional features added, unfortunately I’m not a coder and know nothing about PHP scripting, so am unlikely to be much help.
As a little sidetrack, I noticed a lot of work going on over here regarding Image Management. If this project was able to use some concepts from Albumpattern regarding organising images into Albums etc it would be excellent.

Re: Plugin/Hack: Albumpattern
Hello,
I have a few questions:
How can i make it that you see all the images at the first page ?
How can i make it that the text will become under the images instead of right next to the image ?

Re: Plugin/Hack: Albumpattern
i keep getting an error like this:
Warning: move_uploaded_file(): SAFE MODE Restriction in effect. The script whose uid is 10115 is not allowed to access /home/httpd/vhosts/whichway.nl/subdomains/construction/httpdocs/images/3 owned by uid 48 in /home/httpd/vhosts/whichway.nl/subdomains/construction/httpdocs/textpattern/lib/txplib_misc.php(459) : eval()’d code on line 344
and the folder it creates for albums are protected against me and i can’t change anything from it pretty strange..
is this a common problem, or am i doing something stupid?
can someone please help me?

Re: Plugin/Hack: Albumpattern
Does anyone have the most recent version of this available anywhere? Greenrift/Marshall has removed it from his website.
Thanks,
Alex

Re: Plugin/Hack: Albumpattern
The last version I tried appeared to be buggy and kept giving me error messages during install, although it seemed to work afterwards. I have no idea if it will work with the latest version of Textpattern though.
If you really want it I have Albumpattern 0.5b saved onto my harddisk and I could email it to you. The other option would be to check out textpattern.org and see if they have it there.
I suspect that given the lack of attention Greenrift/Marshall has been giving this plug-in recently, it’s no longer supported, which is a shame really.
