Trouble with Lighttpd, clean URLs and categories

I’ve got a TxP install running under lighttpd with clean URLs. So far so good. The problem is that when I try to filter by category within a section, my articles don’t get filtered. I’ve applied the fix mentioned in this thread but this doesn’t solve this particular problem. For example:

www.sxbrc.org.uk/?c=Record-Centre works; the filter is applied.
www.sxbrc.org.uk/news/?c=Record-Centre doesn’t work; no filtering going on here.

Any ideas, anyone?

Many thanks

Charles

Re: Trouble with Lighttpd, clean URLs and categories

On the page for your “news” section, did you remember to make use of the -if_search and article tags?

(Edit: I meant the if_category tag.)

Re: Trouble with Lighttpd, clean URLs and categories

Thanks for the reply Mary (a belated welcome back, btw). I should have mentioned in my original post, the categories are working fine on my local Apache install, it’s just under lighty that they’re failing when invoked from my news section.

I’ve got article tags in my news section and search isn’t even enanbled yet, so I’m pretty sure it’s nothing to do with these. Unless I’m missing the point somewhere?

Cheers,

Charles

Re: Trouble with Lighttpd, clean URLs and categories

Oh pardon me, I meant the if_category tag.

But it works on Apache eh? I don’t think I could help you then (I know zip about LHTTPd), but hopefully Alex, Sencer or some other server guru can help.

Re: Trouble with Lighttpd, clean URLs and categories

Thanks anyway Mary. :)

I’ve uploaded a tag trace from the problematic Lighty server and my local Apache install for the following page /news/?c=Biodiversity

lighttpd.trace.txt
apache-local.trace.txt

I’ve left tracing on for now.

Bumping this topic. Is this still a problem, Charles?

Re: Trouble with Lighttpd, clean URLs and categories

It’s a bug in lighttpd, there’s a thread somehwere here in the forum about it.

I think it’s this one:
http://trac.lighttpd.net/trac/ticket/576

Temporary solution: Use messy urls, or switch to an older version of lighty, or to apache.

Re: Trouble with Lighttpd, clean URLs and categories

Thanks Sencer – I just came upon exactly the same info having been prompted to look again by Mary’s bump. Sadly I can’t switch to an older lighty or apache (I’m on shared hosting), and clean urls are tightly integrated with the site (not to mention indexed by Google), so until a more permanent solution can be found or an update to lighty comes along, I’ll have to stick with my non-working categories.

According to my stats, not many people click on the category links anyway, so it’s not a huge problem for now.

Thanks again,

Charles
