artiswork.org redesign : brought to you by...
Just me. Sorry to dissapoint. :)
artiswork.org has been redesigned as I have learned more since the first version, started to look elsewhere for the “community” aspect of the first design, as TXP is still lacking in this area.
I’m saying a final goodbye to famdamilynews and ushering in the new work with a post on what the transition into web-design has been like for a formally trained “fine artist”.
I’ve enjoyed adding some functionality this time around like :
Riffs which can be found here and
rolling del.icio.us there as well.
I am also using Ben Bruce’s Email on Post plugin to help those folks who aren’t using RSS yet, namely my family.
Lastly, I am really stoked to have figured out, with the help of these folks how to accomplish a “rollover effect with TXP thumbnails, dynamically.
Hope you enjoy.
As usual. I owe Thanks to this forum. (Alexandra, Stuart, Skubidu, Doggiez, Mary, Wet, et all)
Thanks to Hakjoon (dude, getting those Satan’s Ponies was rad),
Peas,
Matthew

Hi Matthew,
Looking nice! I particularly like the colors and the illustrations of Artiswork.
You might want to check this out: the site is looking different in IE and FF. This page for example: http://artiswork.org/design/granada-prayer-conference

Maarten,
Thanks.
I had made a css change last night and was away from my pc to check it. IT should be working now. Ugh embarrassing.
Peace,
Matthew

Lovely, especially striking to the eye the nice Type work on the logo, and the nifty hover effect on the section menu.
I ‘ve been looking at this in Safari.

Marios,
Thank you for your compliments man.
How’s the usability? Does everything make sense in the layout and scheme?
Thx,
Matthew

So that’s what you needed the hover effect for. Looks miles away better than my test page. :) Also nice to know it works in Safari. That’s the one main browser that I do not have access to.
Very nice looking site. Clean layout that’s easy to use and works equally well with CSS turned off. I like that the UI is out of the way when you access the meat-n-potatos of each section. I hate it when a site takes so much effort to bombard you with visuals that it gets in the way of the content. Congrats!
If I had to pick something that didn’t live up to the visual appeal of the site, it would be the hover and active styles for the #menu
. That and the “recently” graphic rests closer to its content block than the “contact” graphic does below. But that’s getting really picky.
Do not taunt the Markup Monkey!

I’ve got no Idea about Usability yet,(It’ll take at least 2 years)
But when you textresize, then some text parts flow beneath the boxes, which some to be absolutely positioned.
To achieve proper text display (especially in fluid layouts ,not the case here)is pretty hard to achieve though, I believe.
On the front page the recently box has a fixed height and absolute position, so the text spills out of the box , if you textresize,on the section front pages, it’s the menu that floats beneath the menu boxes on the left
Ah, what I found allso cool, is the letter-spacing effect of the page titles.
And then we are all interested about, what method you finally choose for the background image swapping.
I’ve been looking at this at least three times today, I spent most of my time at this hovering, and hovering.
Deeply impressed, hat off for that hard work, what else can I say then.
regards, marios
