Textpattern a day AHEAD

Read the post from someone complaining that TxP was a day behind, but on my dev setup on a Linux box here, I have a problem with TxP being a day AHEAD!

The Date/time and Time Zone on the Linux box are correct.
TxP diagnostic reflect the correct server time.
The time zone on the ‘preferences’ tab is correct (GMT +10, DST)

But the time shown on the ‘preferences’ tab is one day ahead of real time!

I assume this is some server issue, I’m no expert in Linux, but can stumble around and find what I need usually. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Thanks

What’s your server time zone?

Re: Textpattern a day AHEAD

Hi Alex,

As it’s a box sitting in the room here with me, it’s set for Sydney, and it reports the correct day/time.

So currently, ‘preferences’ shows “Sun Mar 19 10:14”
Diagnostics show:
Textpattern version: 4.0.3 (r1188)
last_update: 2006-03-07 08:49:34/2006-03-07 08:45:42

PHP version: 5.1.1
Register globals: 1
server_time: 2006-03-18 10:15:48
MySQL: 5.0.18
Locale: en_GB.UTF-8
Server: Apache/2.2.0 (Unix) mod_ssl/2.2.0 OpenSSL/0.9.8a DAV/2 PHP/5.1.1 mod_apreq2-20050712/2.1.3-dev mod_perl/2.0.2 Perl/v5.8.7
Apache version: Apache/2.2.0 (Unix) mod_ssl/2.2.0 OpenSSL/0.9.8a DAV/2 PHP/5.1.1 mod_apreq2-20050712/2.1.3-dev mod_perl/2.0.2 Perl/v5.8.7
php_sapi_mode: apache2handler
os_version: Linux 2.6.15-1-586tsc

Very confusing…;-)

Update Appears to have rectified itself. Very strange… maybe the same underlying cause as in this thread? Could it be MySQL related?

Uhh, I’m now fixing bugs by telekinesis.

Either that or it’s related to midnight GMT (your first report was an hour before, now it’s after midnight).

Re: Textpattern a day AHEAD

So… your avatar is taking on a spooky resemblance to real life!

I figured there might be a connection to GMT midnight, but why? Is it a PHP thing, or a TxP thing?
I haven’t noticed it on my live sites (hosted with Dreamhost)…

Thanks for your interest…

Re: Textpattern a day AHEAD

My dates are suddenly off as well. The dates on the write tab and preferences are a day behind, but more strangely, all comments and articles on the site are a day behind, even the ones that used to be right. I noticed it about 9pm (not too midnight-ish). I just updated from 4.0.1 to 4.0.3 but it didn’t fix the date problem.

Diagnostics:

Textpattern version: 4.0.3 (r1188)
last_update: 2006-03-21 06:22:40/2006-03-21 06:22:21

PHP version: 5.1.2
server_time: 2006-03-20 22:23:36
MySQL: 4.1.14-Debian_3-log
Locale: en_GB.UTF-8
Server: Apache/1.3.33 (Unix) DAV/1.0.3 mod_fastcgi/2.4.2 mod_gzip/1.3.26.1a PHP/4.4.2 mod_ssl/2.8.22 OpenSSL/0.9.7e
php_sapi_mode: cgi-fcgi
os_version: Linux 2.4.29-grsec+w+fhs6b+gr0501+nfs+a32+++p4+sata+c4+gr2b-v6.189

I hope this is helpful info. Any idea what is going on?

Re: Textpattern a day AHEAD

Exact same symptoms as mine.
It corrects itself after a few hours. For me, the problem occurs for two hours a day – one hour before and one after midnight GMT.

But the problem only seems happen where the server hosting TxP and I are in the same time zone. In other words, I see these symptoms on my dev web server here in my office, but not on the public sites I have hosted in a different time zone to me.

Go figure…

Re: Textpattern a day AHEAD

Two small details that seem relevant:

  • I have two txp installations that share a database, and they are having this problem at the same time (right now). Another txp site on the same web server and time zones, but using a different database on a different host, is fine.
  • On the funky installations, articles I post right now using “set timestamp to now” have URLs like /2006/03/20/title (the correct date), but say “posted on Mar 19” on the site and on the articles tab (a day behind).

Re: Textpattern a day AHEAD

Well, it seems to be happening to me again too. But it is inside the 2 hours around GMT 12:00, so I’ll check it back in a couple of hours to see if it fixes itself again.

So the question is: is this a bug or are we all doing the same thing wrong?

Bug. What, exactly, is the question.
