OnRails.be: Dutch Ruby on Rails news and articles

Hi,

I am Johan Van Mol, living in Antwerp, Belgium.
OnRails is my site about Ruby on Rails.
It is powered by TextPattern 4.0.3. At the moment I’m only using one plugin: asy_sitemap (for creating Google sitemaps).

What do you think about OnRails? Do you like the design, content (if you know Dutch), technical aspects…?

I will keep working on it. I know I’m not using TextPattern the way it should be used (for instance: links are articles with a link section assigned to them; I don’t use pagination,…)

with kind regards,
Johan Van Mol

I like the design – neat and clean. But you could use an “about” page. Just a short intro to the site.

Brian

Thank you for your suggestion! I haven’t thought about it myself, but it would definitely be an improvement. I added the creation of an “about” page to my ToDo List

Very simple and clean, it’s nice. Although, I do think the header is a bit much for only one small image. By the way are you allowed to use that image? I thought it was a part of the other ruby site. Maybe it’s just me though.

Re: OnRails.be: Dutch Ruby on Rails news and articles

Hi, thank you for your comment!
I already received some comments on the rather large header. Positive and negative ones. Personally, I’m quite happy with it. I think it ads to the simple, quiet atmosphere I was looking for. However, Eventually a serach function,… will be placed in the header.

I think eveyone is allowed to use the Rails logo. This post on the rails blog contains the source files (although not available anymore). Why would they spread them if you’r” not allowed to use them?

Regards,

Johan

Oh sorry, I just thought that maybe that was their logo or something. I’m just a little behind the game I guess. Didn’t mean to offend.

No problem, I’m not offended :-)
As I said, I’m not even sure if was allowed to adapt the Ruby on Rails logo.
I just figured it’s OK to do so because they published the source files.
A lot of other Rails sites and user groups are also using the Rails logo.

I guess the Rails folks will contact me if I have to remove or change my logo.
But again, I certainly wasn’t offended ;-)

Regards,

Johan.
