mysql_connect() ... Line 188
I’m pretty sure this has to be something wrong on the server – but in regards to that maybe a linux savvy textpattern’r can give a couple of pointers on how to sort this out.
I’m running TXP on a FC2 virtual server running Plesk 7.5.4. I’ve personally updated mysql and php to the latest versions compatible with Plesk – PHP 4.3.10 & MySQL Distrib 4.1.16.
AFAIK no one else has access to the server.
I had previously setup Textpattern and it worked fined – in fact it is still working fine to serve one of the hosted sites. But recently, I’ve been getting this error with new TXP setups:
<code>
Checking database connection…
Warning: mysql_connect(): Client does not support authentication protocol requested by server; consider upgrading MySQL client in /home/httpd/vhosts/thisdomain.com/httpdocs/textpattern/setup/index.php on line 188
Can’t connect to database
</code>
I searched through the forum and didn’t find any other instances of this exact error – In fact i’m rather sure it’s nothing to do with TXP. But anyone have an idea of where to look to sort this out?
Thanks ALOT!

Yes, it’s not a Textpattern issue, but a MySQL issue; you’ll need to update your database user’s connection password, so that it uses the new password auth algorithm. Here is an explanation and the fix, but likely someone else around here can help you more specifically, if you need it. :)

Wow! – I knew that was a long shot, so very cool to have such an on-point and timely reply! Thanks – and since i’m on a roll… there’s this other problem, and I know this might not be a textpattern thing specifically, but I have this 93 Honda, and it’s making a knocking sound on turns, and I don’t think it’s the axle, but maybe…
