Easiest way to move your textpattern installation?
Does anyone know or have experience moving their textpattern installation w/ database to a new hosting environment? There is some documentation on the resources site but it’s not complete, so if anyone has any advice, tips or instructions it would greatly be appreciated.
Also, is there some sort of import plugin someone has built, I haven’t been able to finding anything that provides this functionality yet. Anybody know of anything similiar?

Thanks Els, read this article last night but there are some missing details that I could possibly figure out, but hopefully someone else has posted a better How-to or knows of plugin that will allow you to do the import task.

What, exactly, are you unclear about? We can provide those details for you, if need be, but we need to know what you don’t know?
And, as plugins reside in the database, there’s no way I know of that can provide the “import” functionality you’re talking about. You’d still have to copy the database and move all relevant files.

Re: Easiest way to move your textpattern installation?
This is how I would do it:
- Create a database on the new host (ideally you would give it the same name, user and password)
- Set up a fresh TXP install on the new host
- Export your old database (see instructions in TextBook)
- Import the data into the new database (this should be easy using phpMyAdmin, just copy and paste the dump into the query area and hit go)
- If your password changed, you’ll have to follow the instructions in TextBook for ‘ Handling the Password’.

Thanks Els, it’s funny you posted this reply because that is exactly what I just did and it seemed to have worked. I had to change my config.php file and a few settings under the “admin” panel but everything looks good to go at this point. Thanks for the help guys.
