Comment Email not working, but comments are added

Alright, I’ve seen a ton of posts regarding comment/email … but still didn’t come across one that fit the problem I’m having.
Basically, I have moderate comments on, and Comments can be posted (to moderation, not to live), but I am not receiving emails notifying me of the posts. I’ve tried turning on and off “email author” to no avail. It’s not a huge problem … I just have to check in my txp admin if any new posts have been made rather than receiving an email notification.

I have a newly redesigned site and used a clean install of textpattern to design, then I imported the mysql tables:
textpattern
txp_discuss
txp_discuss_nonce (after I found it not to be working without updating this table)

I’ve also changed the preferences to reflect the location of the old install and updated the config.php file as well.
Is there an additional sql table that needs to be imported? Any helps appreciated.
Thanks!

Did you check your email address for your user (admin > site admin)? Have you tried changing it?

Nope, that’s where it’s held/managed. Are you sure that the emails are not getting held by some kind of spam filter, either in your email client or perhaps with your server (isp/webhost)?

Re: Comment Email not working, but comments are added

it’s strange, everything is working for comment submit, they’re entered into the database, but not pushed live (which is correct) and the user is thrown to the correct (default) “Thank You” page … I’m just not getting email notification, no matter what email address I enter

Sounds like it may be your server.

If you change to debug mode (admin prefs) does it give any notices or errors? Does your diagnostics tab reveal anything?

When you create a new user, do you get the password email? If not, it may indeed have to do with the server. (Sometimes you are restricted in terms of the sender adress to using an email-adress that exists and lives on the same server)

Thanks guys … I’ll look into when I get a chance today … gotta work right now ;)
Though it was working on the old installation of txp I was using (on the same server)
Diagnostics seems to be okay, will try debug mode

Re: Comment Email not working, but comments are added

hmm, alright, it’s not the server … i’m getting emails when i change my password as well as when i create a new user, and comments posted to articles written by new authors are properly sending email notifications (just not to authors transfered from old db). i guess i probably just didn’t transfer a table that i should have when making the switch. i suppose i can just create a new user with the same/similar display name as the original admin account … good enough for me
thanks for all the help guys

If you didn’t move the old users_table over, then obviously the email adress of old authors is unknown, and they won’t be able to loin etc. etc. If you just recreated the users on the new site, it’s possible that you used a slightly different username and so the authors of the old article cannot be matched to the new user.
