help, to dumb for txp? How to install new themes?

Hi,

I’m new to this forum and also a newbie with textpattern.
for my private blog I’m using Wordpress and for a small project I thought I give textpattern a try, but after playing around here and here and reading there and there I have to say:

h.e.l.p. – I’m lost.

where can I find the answer to my simple question: “How to change to another theme?”

I’ve installed textpattern successfully and downloaded the textgarden-theme but I’m unable to install it. With wordpress it’s really simple to get a new theme

step1: download
step2: login and change to the new theme with the click of a button

In the FAQ there is no “How to change your theme”-entry :-(

What I did so far:

- uploaded the images in the theme-zip to /images
- copied the content from the theme-css-file to a new style named textgarden
- actived this new file in the pages-section with <link rel=“stylesheet” href=”<txp:css n=“textgarden” />” type=“text/css” media=“screen” /> I found this info in the faq.

the page doesn’t look like textgarden, what am I missin?
Any help would be appriciated.

Welcome Phil,

There should have beed a readme file in the theme package that you downloaded. But all are going to basically the same. You will have a folder with:

forms
css
pages

You will need to create forms with the coresponding names in the package you downloaded and paste there contents into each new form.

Same with pages

same with css.

You may want to try: white and wild It has an istaller like a plugin and can be disabled easily. But it would be a good way for you to tinker and see how everything is working without a big hassle.

Hey Soulship,

thanks for the fast answer – I tried to make some handcoding and edited the default page template to link directly to the new CSS file and replaced all image links in the CSS files with complete URLS (http://domain…/back.gif etc.)
Still I was unable to setup the theme so that it looks like the “real” textgarden-theme.

Thanks for pointing me to the White and Wild theme – I’ve setup textpattern with that theme.

From a newbie perspective I think that textpattern is harder to configure than wordpress regarding the use of themes. In the textgarden theme, there were no informations about how to install the theme – one more thing that should be improved.

Since I now WordPress and I guess I really need to read more about textpattern I’ll use wordpress for the current project and use textpattern for some testing.

Textpattern doesn’t have themes yet.
