temp folders + error 500

hi, i can’t seem to get it to work any way i try!
this is the website : http://sharks.awardspace.com/ which shows up with an error message 500 Internal Server Error “The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.”

I can log into admin, the diagnoses of pre-flight check had these two errors :
- Temp folder is not writable: ?
- no_temp_dir ?

the tmp folder was changed to 777, but i still get the error message! maybe the entire folder needs to be reinstalled?

oh, and while i’m in the admin, this message can be viewed only SOMETIMES on top :

Warning: realpath() has been disabled for security reasons in /home/www/sharks.awardspace.com/textpattern/include/txp_diag.php on line 96

The temp directory has got nothing to do with the error you’re getting, that’s a separate problem. Remove the .htaccess file from your root directory. Then switch your permalink mode to “?=messy”.

As for the temp directory, make sure that the path to it is correct (admin > Preferences > Advanced preferences): /home/www/sharks.awardspace.com/textpattern/tmp

okay, i did everything. the diagnostics page now says “all checks passed!”.

but now there’s another error on the actual site :
“If you just updated and expect to see your site here, please also update the files in your main installation directory. (Otherwise note that publish.php cannot be called directly.)

Fatal error: Call to undefined function: textpattern() in /home/www/sharks.awardspace.com/index.php on line 28 “

i reuploaded all of the files and folders, as the FAQ states, but still nothing.
when i’m in admin, there’s this above on the very top of the page :

Look inside your “textpattern” folder. It should contain textpattern.css and publish.php. Is publish.php there?

nope! just in case, i reuploaded it with the original one.

maybe the reason i’m running into so many problems is because i’m trying to test textpattern on a free domain (awardspace.com)? because i just tried to install it on a domain, and it worked like a charm! now i’m going to spiffy it up as a photoblog.

Hmm, strange. Do you happen to know what version of PHP they’re running? That may have something to do with it. Glad you got it working elsewhere, though. :)
