Re: PunBB integration?
I’m ready to do a bridge for 1.2.11, ‘cuz I need it real soon now.
Planning on doing a few other hacks to pun on this project, so I’ll have to diff update anyway.
Probably be a good dry run for the 1.3 bridge too.

Re: PunBB integration?
Dawk,
Using PunBB 1.3’s extension system will save you from doing any diffs now and into the future.
I already have Pun bridged but this time I really want to make the systems seem as one, there’s the TXP content feed but there’s also the interaction back from Pun. The displaying of article replies back into TXP should be a Pun extension, as the comment entry could also be.
Work could begin on the content feed from TXP, I could find out what database changes are coming for 1.3 if you’d like.
Think of the possibilites ;)

Re: PunBB integration?
Could it be possible that the first post of a new thread (= a new article created in TXP) could be aggregated by some RSS method (using XML and all that stuff)?
The advantage: if we make a change in our article using TXP, the change will be automatically reflected in the first post of the thread.
And, of course, the article should be also saved in the PunBB database, but merely for backup or functionality purpose (for example, our TXP is broken, so the PunBB picks up the article content from the record on the PunBB database)
I dont know if this is technically possible.

Re: PunBB integration?
Using the TXP XML export function to ease the port from TXP to Pun may be nice (the dev will use or not, as he sees convenient) but a constant bridge like this… I’m not an expert, but it seems overly complicated.
And I don’t get the pros of that solution.

Re: PunBB integration?
Find out what ya can hcgtv ;)
On the XML idea… my original thoughts were to use pun’s RSS to display the running threads under each article. I need to dig into all of this asap & make some decisions. I’d like to use xml/rss for everything that it will work for. Maybe some basic .xslt?
I’d love to use 1.3, but I need this one done real soon & who knows when a “stable” 1.3 will be available?
This thread is 13months old & I was thinking about this for awhile before I posted.
I’ve ran out of patience lol
cheers

Re: PunBB integration?
Dawk,
Rickard says that there will probably not be any changes to tables that would be involved in a bridge between TXP and Pun. If there are, they would only be minor and the bridge can be updated when 1.3 comes out.
Keep me informed, I can help test things if you’d like.

Re: PunBB integration?
Bump!
I am very much interested in the simple functionality proposed by hcgtv.
No whistles, no bells and no “real” integration. Just a way to simultaneously post articles to a blog and have a copy of said article show up in a specified forum. That would kick some serious butt!
Unfortunately it seems this wont take off until PunBB hits version 1.3…whats taking them so long? Yargh

Re: PunBB integration?
I’m still debating on the article/forum bridge?
Done some serious hacking to pun recently, not a div left in it & SEO’d to the tilt.
Launching this week & I’ll see how she performs?
I probably will go ahead & bridge the 2, just as important IMO is integrating the TXP & Pun searches!
whats everyone else been up to on this?
cheers :)

Re: PunBB integration?
No divs at all? I suppose it would be futile to argue against such a practice as the semantic value of divs is highly debateable. Nonetheless, it will be interesting to see how far you have taken this.
I agree that searches are important, but would be happy with the simple functionality I mentioned earlier. While I dont have the skills to hack into this myself you guys have me cheering you on from the sidelines.
GO TEAM!
Dammit…where did I put those pom-poms?

Re: PunBB integration?
Dawk, when you are talking about hacking does this mean that you really made changes to pun source or did you write an extension? And, if you are going to bridge both system will this be an extension then?
