restricting user admin rights
Hello all,
I hope I have posted in the correct forum. figure that plugins are required to achieve the result I need so I have posted into the plugin forum. I am new to txp (~2wks) and am trying to realise the following:
*Users can self register using mem_self_register linked with ign_password. mostly achieved
*Self registered users approved by myself are given there own section (mydomain.com/newuser) In this section they have a photo/profile/biog and comments are invited. There is a zem_contact form also
*these user sections are uniquely password protected for single user access
*once authenticated users may edit their single profile page. No page creation/deletion allowed. Just changing the html of a single page provided.
I suppose what i need to know is how to use ign to protect a single page with a single password. All in fitting with mem_self_register etc
and how to restrict user admin features to enforce above, only editing their own profile. I don’t want the user to see sections, categories etc
Would it be easiest to hack the code to alter the database entry html code, of an article called profile. Change the contents of the database directly and bypass txp admin? What would be the consequences, pro’s/cons. Or can you modify the admin interface and hide the bits you don’t want? I would also like the admin section to appear within my site template.
another problem i forsee is the section section becoming messy. Ideally I would like all the usernames to be in a subsection of user. Like
edit sections
users >> tom dick harry
but still accessible from mydomain.com/tom etc
Perhaps there is a better way of organising it and i need to think it through.
Thanks for any help or suggestions,
Mike

Re: restricting user admin rights
Note there is some serious talk about fine granulas user rights&privileges, but it’s not ready yet. It may be implemented in the next big version, but that’s several month ahead.

Re: restricting user admin rights
yet i am reasonably confident what I want can be achieved without excessive tweaking of existing code and plugins. I allready love txp because of it’s sleekness. For ages I was looking for a simple CMS backend that didn’t impose any site layout on me. Txp has exceeded my hopes and expectations. the support is brilliant, the plug ins are brilliant. I am going to enjoy finishing my website.

Re: restricting user admin rights
Mmelon,
I had someone do something like this for me once. I am happy to send you what I have that made this work, but I don’t have the time to give you any background/support/feedback unfortunately I am stacked to the gills. However, it was not a minor amount of work that was done (not my work, I am not a PHP master)
Email me and I will send some stuff over to you to figure out. Be aware that it is a hack, and all the risks that come with hacks are inherant.
:)
