6 Days - 6 Themes

Phu Ly over at ifelse.co.uk/ set himself the task of creating and publishing to the web one theme a day for 6 days with the luxury of Sunday off. These themes are now available for Textpattern from TextGarden or Just Another Theme.

Awesome, I’m partial to Simpla.

Thanks to Phu Ly for creating them and to you for porting them.

Re: 6 Days - 6 Themes

Stuart,

I downloaded Simpla and was reading the readme.html file, nice instructions by the way.

Is there a reason why I have to overwrite the default templates and forms, couldn’t it just be in addition to the defaults in case I want to go back?

Re: 6 Days - 6 Themes

Great job Stu!
Well done on the smooth ports.

Have you looked at Rob Sable’s very cool, totally automatic theme install?
If this is a good as it looks/reads, it could be a great way to head for future themes…

It’s been excellent to see all the other entries in the themes competition too.

Cheers

@hcgtv – no reason why you couldn’t keep the templates separate by using a prefix just as long as any references to templates, form or page, within other templates are altered accordingly. It’s how I do it on Just Another Theme.

@NeilA – yes I have seen it. I was testing something very similar for him. Should be great once it’s finished.

@Everyone else – thanks for the comments.

Until a theme engine is in place, would it be a good idea to make the necessary prefix alterations to themes offered for download so that they are ready to be included into a site like you’ve done on “Just Another Theme”?

You can just save your Default templates as something like “Default-original” and then you can just go back to it whenever you want.

Re: 6 Days - 6 Themes

@hcgtv – Well actually I was debating whether to change the download files to use the setup that I use on Just Another Theme.

There, I have a single page template which does both article_list and individual_article views as well as the About page. Further to that, many FORM templates that I use such as DTD, header, sidebar, footer and page navigation, are injected straight into the page template where the normal output_form tag would be. The only special form I use is default_styleName as this can be too intricate to start messing around with if_section tags. It’s then just a case of messing around with the other default forms such as comments and comments_form and adding if_section tags where appropriate.

My only problem about releasing it like this is that it doesn’t really teach a newcomer how to use TXP. It isn’t really the “normal” way of doing things is it?

Anyway, however I decide to release it, in the end, I shall have to convert them all to whatever method comes out of the “Theme” forum. ;)

Stuart,

I really like your designs… they are inspirations for me.
I said it already: I like the way you create… few images… most CSS little magic dust.
