Suggestions for Structure?

Hello, I’m fairly new to TXP, and am struggling a bit with dividing my site properly. I am designing a portal for a company who owns 3 restaurants, and the structure works like this:

www.portal.com
/ Restaurant 1
/——> About Us
/————> General Info
/————> History
/————> Contact Us
/——> Dining Room
/————> Brunch
/————> Lunch
/————> Dinner
/——> Pub
/————> Brunch
/————> Lunch
/————> Dinner
/——> Weddings
/————> About
/——> Events
/————> Listing

Then Restaurant 2 etc… so what would be the best way to section this site off? The way I see it, I have the top level (www.portal.com), then Section 1 (Restaurant), then Subsection, then Sub-Subsection… however TXP doesn’t allow you to make “subsections”. How would you organize this site in Textpattern? Any suggestions would be helpful.

On a related note, I would like to have a navigation bar within each Restaurant, linking to each “subsection”, and then a bar below that linking to each “sub-subsection”.. here is an image to sort of illustrate what I mean:

Sorry if this post is totally confusing, my brain is a little stretched right now.

Re: Suggestions for Structure?

I’m guessing the technique at the following link would work:

http://forum.textpattern.com/viewtopic.php?pid=85755

Restaurant = Section, Dining = Sticky, Brunch = Article

I’ll have to try this out, but would still appreciate any thoughts on this.

Re: Suggestions for Structure?

Jesse,
This can all be accomplished with native tags. No plugins necessary.
Its a section/article type of navigation you are looking for.

If you are so inclined to use a plugin, you may use chh_article_custom (sorry, its late, I’ve lost gumption to look up the url)

Your submenu ie: Dining/About – Dining/Brunch – Dining/Lunch – Dining/Dinner can be done with the article tag, (a list type form)

No need for categories here, necessarily.

Re: Suggestions for Structure?

ma_smith thanks for the reply! I’m not sure if I made it clear that I want to have 3 different “sites” on one install of TXP, all with their own navigation / structure. It would seem to me that I would need to use something like three-tier navigation. If your suggestion would work for this, would you mind elaborating on it? Thanks again, sorry for my ignorance :P

Re: Suggestions for Structure?

The section+sticky+article technique will work, though it won’t be as automatic, if that matters.

Re: Suggestions for Structure?

I’m having a tough time with this. Here is an updated, more detailed look at how I want my site to work:

I have the section list working properly, using the technique at http://forum.textpattern.com/viewtopic.php?pid=85755

I also seem to have the “sticky” technique working.

However, to display the third level, the subsections of the “sticky” articles, is the problem. I cannot seem to figure this out. I tried assigning categories to them, and using “if_category” to build the menu. However this doesn’t seem to work. I am totally fumbling through this, anyone have a minute to explain what I’m doing wrong? Thanks.. :(
