Link rewrite doesn't work after moving textpattern...

Hi,

Just installed Textpattern 4.0.3 and it seems really nice.

After I’d installed it I decided to move it to the root of my site, instead of in a subdirectory. I did this and changed a line in config.php and the site url entry in the ‘admin’ section.

Now everything works fine at the new location. Except for the link rewriting. This USED to work OK in the initial location. But now it gives me a ‘requested URL not found’ error. However, the ‘messy’ mode works OK, so it must be something going wrong with the link rewriting.

Does anyone know how to solve this (other than by reinstalling everything)?

Thanks.

Hi thesheep

Please, check if you have followed the steps in the TXP Manual:

Moving from Subdirectory to Domain Root

edit: and welcome!

Hi, yes looks like I followed all those steps OK. And everything else is working fine, just the urls when using the rewriting option.
I did a grep for the name of the original subdirectory and doesn’t seem to be in any of the PHP files, so I don’t think it’s a setting that I need to change.

It’s nice to have friends in Argentina!

Hi

no, you wont find anything in the PHP files (well, yes in config.php). Also, try searching in the database, by using PHPMyAdmin or something similar.

Did you move the .htaccess to the root directory? has the .htaccess any content?
Finally, can you post your diagnostics? (they are in admin -> diagnostics

:)
and where r u from?

Ah – London, and it’s cold.

I searched in the database and found one entry (setting for file_base_path in txp_prefs) which I changed. But the URL rewriting still doesn’t work.

Now .htaccess – don’t really understand how this works. There is a .htaccess file in the root directory, but it is blank. There is no .htaccess file in the /textpattern directory.

Re: Link rewrite doesn't work after moving textpattern...

Buenos Aires is hot these days.

You need the .htaccess in the root for the URL writting.
You dont need to put any .htaccess in /textpattern directory.

So, it seems you have deleted the .htaccess when you moved the site from folder to root.

1. get the original .htaccess from the TXP zip file.
2. upload it to your root folder.
3. check your diagnostics again.

Brilliant. That worked fine, thanks.
Someday I must learn how .htaccess works.
