I’m happy to announce that neutrino will be your compliment. ;)

Thanks neutrino.

Re: [wiki] Images Manager/Administrator for TextBook?

Hey there, your welcome. I finally found this thread. So to recap:

  • Consistant with what’s already there, only makes sense.
  • Label: tab1Tab2-groupItem.png (anyone mind my lowercase pref/habit?)

How I’m thinking is that I start to work from the top of the list down—if there are no images I’ll capture a full screen, save in a photoshop file and then clip and layer in that same photoshop file. Eventually I suppose we could just swap PS files to add the pointer details. I’ll probably run through capturing full screens and labeling the main files and then go in make layers. Then zip by TAB1 and store on a server. What do you guys think?

Re: [wiki] Images Manager/Administrator for TextBook?

All sounds good.

There’s a lot of white space on the screens we really don’t need to capture. I’ve been really cropping the various images to just the relevant views. Have a look at the Write Subtab as an example, or I think the Sections Subtab, which I’m still working on.

One thing, though, I only have Fireworks, not PS, so for folks like us let’s make sure the file formats are compatible. I’m pretty sure PNG outputs are cross compatible.

I’m sure Andreas will jump in here when he has some time. He’s a teacher, and I think school is in at the moment.

He will — I’m in the middle of exams at the moment (my own, mind you, not the ones of my pupils; I’m still a trainee teacher) which will last several more weeks.

But since my bad conscience has been growing on me over the last couple of months after announcing I would help with the images and then doing nothing I’ve just added some images to the Organise tab section. I’d already written the text so I thought I might as well finish it.

So, I’m still here, still remembering my promise; I’ll add images as time allows.

P.S. Destry, do you know any auto form for Fireworks that creates curly brackets? And how do you create the numbers inside the circles? By hand? I’m also still looking for a way to give text a solid colour background without grouping it with a rectangle shape.

Re: [wiki] Images Manager/Administrator for TextBook?

I wonder if the FW master could create a set of icons (numbers, brackets, etc) to be imported into the current image working file and dropped in as layers — FW uses layers, no? Edit: PNGs of the numbers would help me out a lot.

Re: [wiki] Images Manager/Administrator for TextBook?

Also, this tool keeps getting better. It’s called ScreenshotCaptor and it has editing functions built into it. I believe icons (like text bubbles) can be imported in. I haven’t tried the lastest version but I had trouble with the new full screen capture feature on SSC. The MiniCap program worked just great for full screen capture, tho. Edit: Otherwise it seems to work great.

Re: [wiki] Images Manager/Administrator for TextBook?

I’ve quickly put together the numbers 1 to 15 each enclosed in a circle and png files. I’ve also included the original Fireworks png which contains all numbers as separate frames.

Here are all together in a zip file

And yes: Fireworks uses layers.

Update

I’ve made a second set which is smaller because the large ones sometimes don’t fit in between interface elements. Both sets included in the zip file

Re: [wiki] Images Manager/Administrator for TextBook?

Yeah, I was doing it all by hand, at least the first time, then reusing the layers for subsequent images. Looks like you got it together though, Andreas. Excellent.

I don’t know how to do text background colors; I always just use rectangles and group, as you mention.

OK, you guys are in charge with the graphics. I’ll just be on auto-pilot and help out with the text.

Thanks so much.

Destry, I’ve asked on the FW newsgroup and there someone had a good solution, IMHO.

To get background colour of a text, you can apply the glow effect to it and choose the glow colour to be the background colour of your main canvas. If you save the settings in a style, you can apply it easily to all sorts of text.
