Multiple users?
I’m looking to set up a small high school with a textpattern-based site. Ideally, each teacher would have a login and be able to post homework assignments, reminders, etc. Then someone like myself would be the admin and control the layout, prefs, etc. So far, I haven’t really figured out how to do this. Is there any feasible way other than a textpattern installation for each teacher? That seems like it could get out of hand pretty quickly. If I absolutely have to resort to that, is there a way to make the installations stay seperate, but share as many elements as possible (layout, prefs, etc.) so that every time something needs to be changed, 20+ accounts don’t have to be individually changed?

Re: Multiple users?
You can make 20 odd teacher accounts, which would have ‘staff writer’ permissions. You could then assign each teacher a section that they would post to. However, I don’t think there exists a means to tie an account to a particular section, the teachers would need to be mindful of where they are supposed to write.

Re: Multiple users?
Yeah that’s what I figured. Hmmm… each teacher will probably have 2-4 sections so that could add up. Maybe a real clean aphabetical list with “teacher-sectionname” would work. It still requires some effort on the techers’ parts to not just hit post. Not exactly ideal. Texpattern could really use multiple users with permissions.

Re: Multiple users?
There is actually a group working on what this, though I think they are just writing up a spec, so it is probably a fair ways away from being implemented.
You might be able to modify your install to add this feature yourself, since you don’t need particularly complex permissions. I“m not sure how much effort you want to expend on this sort of work though.
There may be other CMS systems that handle mutliple accounts better. There are a lot of people on this forum that can help you pick a CMS if you want to try another one out. (davidm or michaelkpate both come to mind.)

Wildsponge, (funny name:)
The group Ramanan is speaking of is The rights and permissions workgroup, feel free to participate. The groups been catching up from being overworked in our “real lives”, but we’re on track and any help/insight is appreciated. If you care to dig in, check the images along the way, and see what you can gather and then speak up.
