Theme issue: Error Pages

There’s already an old thread on this that i’ve recently bought up again with some good comments from mary and zem, but since theres a brandy new forum I thought the issue should be raised again.

With the convention that a lot of current authors are using of prefixing their forms (and sometimes pages and CSS) with ther theme name (for example Page: SKYdefault) in order to keep thigns separate from either the default tempaltes or a previously installed theme and make it easier to review before going live there was only 1 place where I couldn’t make a theme smart enough to override or avoid reusing the name of the stock template — the Page “error_default” (or other error_* pages if you maek em).

The idea for a solution I came out with from the older thread was to patch the Presentation > Sections tab with another fieldset, similar to Default (and not a typical section) where each status code would have a selection for “use page” and “use style” and base pulling the template off this information instead of having things hardcoded in the core app.

Does that sound like a legitimate solution? anyone else have ideas for another approach?
