Getting started with layouts

I’m not sure how to experiment with different layouts. I’m a developer, so I’ve been able to organize textile the way I want, but I’m not a designer and my .css is just coming along. So far I’ve stuck with the basic wordpress look and feel.

I think I can work from an example as a starting point, maybe using one of the examples at textpattern.org, but I’m not sure how to go about this. Ideally I could try a new layout and fall back to my current layout if I don’t like it or, even better, access the new layout with a different url. But I guess I can also create a copy of my site to work on.

Can anyone point me to any more information on these subjects or otherwise offer any guidance?

Thanks.

Re: Getting started with layouts

Valen,

Seems like you want to switch styles whenever you want. This tip might help you out. It enables you to switch back and forth between themes so you can hang on to your ‘old’ style until you’re fine with the new one.

Thanks for the pointer; I’ll give it a try when I get some time.
