TextProfessionals

suggestion is to create a directory of people/companies offering Textpattern-related services

could be code, design, troubleshooting, customisation, etc

those looking for services can browse and contact people/companies direct, perhaps after checking out their previous work or other tantalising titbits, etc

if you have an interest, post a reply – all comments, suggestions, gratefully received – and if there are sites that do this well, post a url (we can borrow some ideas i.e. competitive analysis)

directory will be built with Textpattern

over to you…

Re: TextProfessionals

In addition and to let you know:

TXP Mag will soon support people/companies offering Textpattern-related services by:
  • putting ads on frontpage
  • a section for ads and network announcements
  • a Google Map reserved for TXP related services

[nardo, no idea what you are up to but i really love to collaborate on this. instead of opening up another site, we can use TXP Mag. It already offers a great overview …let me know what you think :)]

Re: TextProfessionals

for a while now considered this idea of a directory – so you could search by country or language or skill set

e.g. I need a plugin written, requires some quality php coding, and prefer to communicate in Spanish… need a graphic designer who understands how txp works to enhance my visual identity… want to transfer a flat html site over to txp, no php coding required, but contractor must accept payment via paypal… etc

from the side of the txp professional, ability to create an account and add/update details resulting in greater visibility and hopefully financial reward… some big studios and talented individuals are available worldwide

I don’t think it matters having another site as it would have a very specific focus – it is slightly different to Txp sites collection and the mag; and could have a symbiotic relationship

but I’m happy to ride any wave : )

Re: TextProfessionals

I would strongly suggest that this directory would be hosted by textpattern.com, or at the very least by a already existing major website (suck as TXP Mag) with this page linked from textpattern.com.

Re: TextProfessionals

Please do not let us set up another TXP related site. TXP resource sites are already so scattered all over the place.
TXP Mag gets so much traffic from all over, not only textpatterners. It is attractive to many outside the TXP world and that is important to offer and ‘sell’ txp related services. If somehow possible, nardo please let us join and work on this together. You can have a section on TXP Mag for yourself .. i am really open to any ideas you might come up with.

Re: TextProfessionals

no worries – here’s a list of ‘attributes’ you might want to browse/search against

  • country
  • language(s)
  • services
    • general consulting
    • graphic design
    • logo design
    • copywriting
    • photography
    • website design (xhtml flavours? css?)
    • javascript
    • php
    • custom plugin development?
    • hosting
  • rates?
  • payment methods accepted

what else?

maybe using takshaka’s tags or wilshire’s unlimited categories… so you can search over multiple attributes…

I haven’t really thought long and hard about this

Re: TextProfessionals

“Flavour” as in “I can build you a true strict valid semantic accessible and usable website and if you want me to put table layout in here and flash menu I won’t do it whatever the money” is very much needed.

As for the org, to do things right TXP can’t do it (we’ll need tabular data handling). Textgarden hasn’t imploded because of the very few submissions, but for this one could we make it right ?

Re: TextProfessionals

This post would go great over in the new volunteer forum

I agree TxpMag is the place for this project AND with a link to TXPmag up on the top of the Forum.

Re: TextProfessionals

jeremie, neutrino, alex: I’m not being difficult, just want to know why this would be better under TxpMag rather than on domain “TextProfessionals.com”?

it is a very specific application (services directory) with no editorial comment – I prefer sites to have a single purpose cos it keeps things simple & modular, rather than maintaining subdirectories, etc… and not only on the server/script side, also in the context the user views the information

if anything, you could argue it would be better under Textpattern Resources?

I thought I’d ask anyway… building it is another thing. Jeremie, if we used Manfre’s community plugins, we could create a custom ‘write’ page which included set tags as check boxes (thus retaining control over taxonomy while simplifying user data entry)… I think takshaka’s related articles could output matches when searching/browsing… however I haven’t done this, and am not sure if it’ll really work… maybe there’s a custom script for this sort of thing? maybe some type of matchmaking script? anyone know?

I like the name a lot. I would expect to find an incredible amount of content on that site beyond a link to other sites. Is that what you have in mind? Kind of like what this young pup is doing —with— using Textpattern.

I would love to see a site map, design sketch of what you have in mind. I think what Alex and I are talking about is the sense of randomness to the community as a whole. Basically I’m behind whatever site the most people get behind to BUILD as a TEAM. Go TXP Go. The more hands the bigger better and badder, right?

Textpatternolgists.com?

Re: TextProfessionals

the context is: commercial support/development services that are textpattern-related

essentially, a directory… that lists name, contact details, services, links to examples of work, link to home page

browsable and searchable by user’s requirements

from time to time, someone asks in the forum if someone is willing to take some paid work… and this would be a place where those offering services and those requiring services could make beautiful music together

This is already on it´s way in TXP Mag.

Personally i prefer one place which attracts users from outside or TXP too. If you like to market txp related services you need traffic from outside and TXP Mag offers that already including a Sites Collection to browse and a Blogmap and pretty soon a Biz Map. Let us rather centralise information than decentralise.

Please, let´s bundle power in one place instead of keeping 2, 3 places. If you are interested in such a project, let us rather cooperate/collaborate. Please join TXP Mag´s efforts regarding txp related services. You would be of great help, nardo. We can talk about everything. I am very open for ideas.
