Txp World Services

You’ll notice I’ve been gradually adding sub-forums in different languages for the benefit of members. Of course I idealise these as places where people can exchange help and discuss matters without the english-or-the-highway hurdles we sometimes run into here.

I’m going to keep this forum running separate, as the place to discuss the specifics of localisation.

Great.

Minor nitpick: “Deutsche” means female German national. What you meant was “Deutsch”, ie German as in the language.

Re: Txp World Services

Thanks a lot for this new “World Service”.
I don’t know much about PunBB, but would it be possible to add some kind of Subforums under the forum of a country?
Something like this:

+ Ελληνικά
+ Deutsch
---+ subforum1
---+ subforum2
+ Español
+ ...

PS: I know, that it increases the height of the forum list, but I liked the subtitles of each forum.

Aren’t the topics in the forum ‘subforums’?

Well, okay. That’s a point of view ;)
If the topics are the “subforums”, we’ll need some sticky ones in the local forums.

Re: Txp World Services

A big Thank You for this nice TXP World Service ;)

I like to make a suggestion: if by any chance it would be possible “subforums” come on handy for:
+ Installation
+ How to
[+ Let´s see yours ]

I noticed Installation is often depending on country provider services and it is often very difficult to express the problem in english.

How to could be the subforum for everyother issue.

Let see yours is particular interesting as taste varies from country to country and i hope more people present their great work (and i can collect them on TXP Mag ;)

If this will not considered to be useful, i like to agree with my german blog fellow Nils suggesting a sticky german post instead.

Re: Txp World Services

Well, I am not speaking as an admin for this forum, but with some experience in managing small to medium other forums. Usually it has more drawbacks than benefits if forum that are only used by few people are further split up into subforums. It makes the people that want to help weary, because they have to click a whole lot more to find new topics. And it makes the forum look emptier than it really it is.
On the forums I was involved with, we always had a policy of not dividing up discussion in a forum, until all new topics from within 2-3 days would be longer than would fit on one page (because then people might overlook new topics when they only look at page one).
In the meantime people can tag their topic by describing in the subject field what it is about, for example they could put “installation rc4: problem with languages” in the subject.
