Plugin Request: link search
I would like to be able to search links (title and description), I don’t think this is possible with the built-in search. It seems like it only searches articles. Please tell me I’m wrong? If not, would it be possible for someone to create a plugin for this functionality?

Re: Plugin Request: link search
Correct, only searches articles.
Possible? Yes. It would have to be separate from the regular search, but it is possible.

Re: Plugin Request: link search
Since it has to be seperate maybe there could be something like an amazon type search where you have a dropdown list that has:
search: (dropdown) Articles, links (/dropdown) (search field) (search button)
The default would be to search articles. Would you be willing to create this, Plugin Guru Mary?

“…a dropdown…”
Not a bad idea.

Sure, it’ll be fun. :)

Re: Plugin Request: link search
Meh, I’m gonna have to bail on you, Jeff. A lot more work than I’m prepared to handle. I could hack something basic together, but then supporting it would be a nightmare.
The search itself isn’t what’s difficult. Its simple to interrupt search, and run your own search instead, only a couple lines. The hard part is co-ordinating all the integration tags and forms (a repeat of the current problems with comments).
Anyone else care to try at it? Please do.

Re: Plugin Request: link search
You can search links with my tfu_linklog plugin. It’s separate from Txp’s in-built search function, but it returns matches from link titles, descriptions and URLs. Disclaimer: I haven’t tested it with the most recent Txp versions.

Mary, what about just having a seperate search box instead of a dropdown one? Would that make it any easier? If not, thanks for trying I appreciate it.
carton, thanks for the link, but I wanted a link search that is plugin agnostic so I could use any of the link listing plugins and still have a search.

Re: Plugin Request: link search
Jeff: That’s the easy part. The more time-consuming and difficult problem is the tags and forms that are required. Just like the problem we have now with comments.
