textpattern.org : who will be the 200th plugin ?

Just a teaser, we’re now at 196 plugins on textpattern.org, a great milestone will soon be reached, 200 plugins for TXP ! I never stop being amazed at the quality of those plugins, but now there’s also quite a bit of choice in this area.

Also I wanted to acknowledge there’s been quite some help lately thx to wilshire, micampe, remillard, jaspaul001, andrew, andreas :) No less than 29 new plugins entered since april 1st :)

Last but not least, let’s emphasize alicson’s great work with this website !

Re: textpattern.org : who will be the 200th plugin ?

Firstly txp.org is fantastic!

Just a quick suggestion

As txp is moving it would be great to have a plugin archive storing plugins as per txp version,
ie RC1 compatible plugins RC3, TXPv1! etc.

If it is not done now it will get harder and harder as time moves on.

Re: textpattern.org : who will be the 200th plugin ?

One way to start that would be for users to leave comments on plugins they have found not to be compatible with current releases.

At least then someone browsing the site would see “this plugin does not appear to work with RC3” and would look for something else.

Later things could be archived but at least this way people would know if it will work or not.

Re: textpattern.org : who will be the 200th plugin ?

Me too I have the same problem each time I add a plugin on textpattern.org. Hard to find any info even in forum threads. It would be nice if textpatterners made an habit out of reporting back if it works for their version :)

Re: textpattern.org : who will be the 200th plugin ?

thanks for the shoutout David :)

the version issue is an important one. when the site was first built, it would have been nice to have a field to say “compatible with the following version(s):” .. but the problem is that it’s probably the most unknown and changing bit of information about a plugin that there is. the best i could figure was for as many people as possible to make a note saying “this plugin does not work on version X”, or “this plugin has been tried and true on version Y”..
it’s not the most ideal situation, but it’s probably the most comprehensive and sustainable way to go..

there has been some server issues that i know have been frustrating many who just are simply trying to use the site.. i apologize for those.. it’s kind of like the forum issue, i suppose.. i’m hoping it will be sorted out sooner than later, i’m not sure how to make it better meanwhile, and everyone’s hard-pressed patience is appreciated through it.

the site itself needs to be upgraded to version RC3/1.0 when the pieces all fit to do so.. and then it could do with a good redesign/restructuring. if you guys have opinions on the category assignments and other structural/accessibility thoughts, it would be nice to have that to integrate.

Hmm… at 197 now.

I should probably get to work finishing a couple of things I’ve been developing…

The “advertising” for textpattern.org can’t hurt, some people still don’t know about it, I guess :)

there has been some server issues that i know have been frustrating many who just are simply trying to use the site.. i apologize for those..

Well, I have noticed the issue on my textpattern websites, though it seems to occur much less on mine : sometimes it’s just like the CSS is simply not loaded from TXP’s DB, and you just have a nice unstyled page.

One thing to do would be to unset all plugins and try to activate them one by one and see what happens.

it’s kind of like the forum issue, i suppose.. i’m hoping it will be sorted out sooner than later, i’m not sure how to make it better meanwhile, and everyone’s hard-pressed patience is appreciated through it.

Well to me it’s not at all the same problem. The forum’s problem are way more annoying, even to a frenzied hardcore textpatterner like me… post subscription doesn’t work, and that’s a big downer.

Textpattern.org sometimes needs a page reload, which is slightly annoying, but nothing big here.

I am not quite sure it’s server related. BTW, which server at TXD is it hosted on ?

@davidm – the result effect may be very different, but it’s all rooted in the same problem, mysql on textdrive. should be fixed soon.

Re: textpattern.org : who will be the 200th plugin ?

Thx for this, I had skipped this post on TXD’s forum.
I finally begin to understand ! It’s been so frustrating…

Can’t wait to be moved to barclay-new….
