Some questions regarding sections
I installed textpattern today and was fooling around with it. I wanted to sort out by myself how it worked. I understood most of the concept. I am still wondering, though, what sections are for and how are they different from categories.
Is the frontpage (index) some kind of section too?
I tried some premade themes. The installation worked, and all the images, css, forms and pages are in their place. How do I know make textpattern use the custom theme instead of default one? The download page said you should change it at “sections” but that doesn’t work. It might be something I accidentaly did with my newbish foolishness. Please help me, thanks.

Re: Some questions regarding sections
If you have used movable type before it helps to think of sections as separate blogs in the sense that it separates your content and you can use different layouts.
Sections are like categories but with more separation.
I use a couple different sections – one for TXP related stuff and another for journal type stuff
I’m a teacher and I have a class website setup. I have a section the students to view and another for my own personal notes etc. I’ll probably set up separate sections for each class i teach.
If you installed new pages, forms and css to use you should be able to go into the section tab and select the new css and page template from the drop downs next to each section. That’s all it should take to change the templates

Re: Some questions regarding sections
Ok, I got, but I am still wondering about the “default” section:
ould run reclaim, regrowth, eternal witness, and elven cache if you wanted. From TXP help:
“Note that a special hidden ‘section’ always exists, named default. Using the layout called ‘default’ as well as the CSS called ‘default’, this is what makes up the front page of your site.”
So how do I change the layot and css “default” section is using? Just alter the “default” layout? Can I change the ‘default’ to some other, so that it appeared at the frontpage?

Re: Some questions regarding sections
Textpattern Semantics is a good introduction to sections and categories. That and other helpful articles can all be found at the Textpattern Resources site.
The “default” page template can be modified however you like, however it must retain the name “default”. Same goes for the “default” stylesheet. The “default” section is the front page (home page), and also the default page for search results (although search results can be outputted into a different section if you like).
Code is topiary
