jakob – the events stay in the calendar after the date passes, but the next 5 events list only lists events from now into the future. When I enter these events I use Textpattern’s publish date to set the day and time of the event. For instance, tonight at 8PM Pink Martini is performing at Bass Hall with the Fort Worth Symphony and at the same time Jubilee Theater is performing “Fences”. If you were to log into the site tonight at 8:01PM (give or take a minute based on the server’s time) those two events will still be listed on the calendar, but will no longer be listed under next 5 events.
I’ll work on documentation of the hacks I performed to get this to work, and explain how to set it up. As for my ‘plugin’, that will need some tweaking, but I’ll work on it this week to see if I can get it ready to release.

that’s great news txfrog !
I gather from other threads that actually deleting past articles represents a security risk, so I guess the articles have to remain. If the list only shows what’s up and coming then they expire at least visually from the list.

No rush, but I’m interested to see what you have come up with.
I’m planning on rewriting my plugin soon it’s hard to use in a productive way at the moment. I have some great idea how to improve things.

Ok guys I just wanted to drop in and let you know that I’ll have this done Monday, Tuesday at the latest. Sorry for the delay, but last week we found out my wife is pregnant with our first child so things have been a bit of a blur around here :D Hope everyone understands.

And I’d like to second (or third, fourth, whatever) everyone’s excitement about your plugin work on this subject. I expect to be beginning a project within the next few weeks to which this scheduling functionality will prove invaluable. I’m very much looking forward to it.

Thanks to everyone who have emailed me and posted with their congrats. The last two weeks have been wild and exciting to say the least, and tomorrow I will post the write up for the calendar and my plugin (I would do it today but I’m in the middle of my niece’s 3rd birthday party).
Thanks again for all of the support for both my growing family and the plugin work.

Sorry everyone, I’ll need to postpone the post until after work tomorrow. We spent the better part of today morning the loss of our family dog who we had to put down this morning.
