Can you recommend or indicate a webhoster providing textpattern?
Hi, I’ve set up textpattern on a webhoster, both for my domain and for a subdomain. Everything was fine for years, besides the host admins did change some configs every now and than.
Now they transit from http to https, and certainly do more.
As a result the subdomain site is no longer avialable for me and many others (403 error), while, with unchange config, many others can load it. This must have happened between August 2023 and now.
What I’d like to do is focussing on Textpattern-CMS-content only, getting rid of all those configuration issues. I see that many hosters do also provide textpattern as CMS, but am not sure if I can focus just on my content, avoiding server configurations.
As a plus it would be good if such a proivder also supports email, which they probably do.
So: Can you recommend or indicate such a provider to me?
Thank you

Check to see if your hosting service offers free LetsEncrypt certificates for your domains . Many hosting companies have this feature. You may also require a .htaccess file with some redirects :
RewriteEngine On RewriteCond %{SERVER_PORT} 80 RewriteRule ^(.*)$ https://www.yourdomain.com/$1 [R,L]
replace yourdomain.com with your website name.
And you may want to edit your SQL database and change all occurrences of http://www.yourdomain.com to https://www.yourdomain.com but using your website name.
Others may have better suggestions.
EDITED TO ADD:
PS. I use opalstack.com as my hosting services and I am very pleased with their service

Hi ms-spo,
I see you’re based in Germany (like me). I’ve been using a shared server account on all-inkl.com for more than two decades and they’ve served me well and reliably all this time, haven’t been taken over by some larger company, and are reasonably priced. E-Mail is included and despite their slightly old-looking website and own admin area (it’s not cPanel like with many other hosts), it is flexible and reliable. Running subdomains is no problem and you can arrange your files (more or less) as you like on the server. Their support is good and most of the time you can get someone on the phone without a long wait. Plus they’re Germany-based and green-powered.
Note, you’ll need the PrivatPlus plan for free automatic SSL certificate updates for https:// (that costs extra on the smallest plan).
Note too: Textpattern is not one of their “auto install” options, so you would still need to install Textpattern manually, similarly for subdomains (I think that applies for most hosts), but it is not difficult and setting up things like https:// SSL is a matter of two clicks. If you need some assistance, or have other specific questions, feel free to get in touch.

bici, jakob, thank you for you ideas and proposals : )
Will check both providers. // Right, installing txp is no big deal. // SSL I have to learn, how to do it.
jakob, thanks for your offer about assistance. I’ll keep it in mind.
Michael
