Re: rc2 and 1.0

Actually, I’d rather have the Mac with which you took the screenshot over a new TXP release … cough

I think Jason’s trying to give us a heads up on features.

How about an ETA Jason?

Well, that textpattern’s like 2 years old.

People forget that was beta 1-20ish (like 3+ years ago), then beta 1-16 (and the “where the hell is b1.17?! Revolt/Mutiny” “He just focusing on the TextBox 20!!!” With Drew pronouncing that “Dammit, we’re going to fork this thing ourselves!!”).

Yeah, “spigots” are what now just called “tags”. b1.16 was the last one to use <?php ?>. The sought after b1.17 was the release that was going to has xmlish tags, put CSS into the database (put everything in the database …).

About a year later it all showed up in gamma1.1, which then went to gamma1.19, and then RC1 went to 63 releases, becoming RC2 along the way …

Man, I love textpattern. I do.

Ah, yeah, it’s time for 1.0.

THAT SCREENSHOT IS VERY VERY OLD. IT IS NOT TEXTPATTERN 1.0. IT IS A TWO YEAR OLD BETA VERSION. It was the backend for pages like this one

THERE ARE NO SPIGOTS

Ha!

You see, that’s what I get for being a late adopter — I’m not up to speed on the txp history.

Re: rc2 and 1.0

I guess I was a relative late comer (gamma 1.19 if I remember). I wonder why Dean ditched the “select a layout” feature… It seems like it would have been neat, and very attractive to new users/ non web designers.

Re: rc2 and 1.0

Because the beta to gamma was a complete rewrite and a mass migration to the database. The gamma was so much leaner and meaner in terms of PHP, it’s not even funny. Back then there was an “automatic” or “manual” mode, and essentially what you saw gamma was the temporary abandonment of the the automatic “select a layout” feature. I just think it went on a bit a hiatus. See the betas were put out by a designer, and the gamma was released by a programmer and I expect the two to be back together.
