Think I know why social media is slow

Just browsed one element on a Facebook page using the inspector. Seriously. Is 17 nested divs the most efficient DOM tree they could come up with to house a single video tag? And that’s not to speak of another handful of divs further up the page before you get to this element.

Plus, just before the </body> tag there are sixty-six, yes 66, <script> tags. And one in the <head>.

Madness I tell you. Madness!

If money can solve your problem, it is not a problem! We will invest in more powerful hardware, hire more programmers — and everything will be OK.

Re: Think I know why social media is slow

It is the scripts (trackers, profilers, chaperones and other big daddy keeps you under his benevolent watch) that does it I suspect (not that I would know how FB is, I never go there).

I see quite a few of those react.js sites that are quite responsive (e.g Guardian, ElPais). 1Blocker might help as well, though.
