Forum maintenance / downtime: 2021-03-14 0600-1000UTC

The Textpattern user support forum is to be migrated to a new server. This will be happening on:

Sunday, March 14 2021 from 0600 to 1000 UTC
(2021-03-14T06:00:00+00:00 to 2021-03-14T10:00:00+00:00)

All posts and discussions are regularly archived, so no data will be lost.

Please refer to twitter.com/textpattern for updates during the maintenance window.

Please refer to this thread after the maintenance window has closed for any additional information.

Also related to this – the newer version of the forum will retire the obsolete ‘Messaging’ section of your profiles (which was mostly messaging services that have shut down over the years), and instead provide a section where you can add links to your social media channels, if so desired. They will then appear under your mini profile in the silver in forum threads, and in your profile page.

NTS: when copying + pasting ISO 8601 time stamps from Wikipedia, check all the numbers.

Thanks, now fixed. Your eagle eyes are appreciated, sir.

Great! I’ve spotted a very small code error on my part which I’ll fix later today (Mastodon field in profile is wrong).

Dangit. I just opened an issue for that – didn’t see this.

Woohoo! Zippy. Thank you for all your hard work getting this migration running. I know it’s not been a smooth ride.

The Mastodon field is fixed now. NTS we will need to check our CSP for the forum as I am sure there are a couple of things we can tighten now (i.e. we don’t use Recaptcha any more so we can remove Google’s domains from the allowed rules).

Google CSP stuff has already gone.

For info, the old forum server was a 2-core Xeon E5 (benchmark):

~$ echo 'Processor: ' $(cat /proc/cpuinfo | grep 'name' | uniq | sed 's/model name\t: //g') '(cores available: '$(cat /proc/cpuinfo | grep process | wc -l)')'
Processor: Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5-2650 v4 @ 2.20GHz (cores available: 2)

…and the new one is a single-core Xeon Gold (benchmark):

$ echo 'Processor: ' $(cat /proc/cpuinfo | grep 'name' | uniq | sed 's/model name\t: //g') '(cores available: '$(cat /proc/cpuinfo | grep process | wc -l)')'
Processor: Intel(R) Xeon(R) Gold 6140 CPU @ 2.30GHz (cores available: 1)

We also on newer hard drives, forum runs on PHP 8.0, and my build skills have improved markedly over the past 3 years, so it should be better all round.

(Edits for tweaks and benchmarks)
