ICANN registry intends to remove the price cap on .org domain names
If you or a non-profit that you know and love use a .org internet domain name, be advised that the ICANN registry want to remove the price cap limit that only allows the annual registration for such domain names to go up 10% each year.
This will mean that individuals and non-profits may soon be priced off the internet. If you don’t want that to happen please visit this link and let ICANN know why this is a bad idea.

Some good news :-)
One year on, ICANN elects not to sell .org domain registry to a private equity company. See the ICANN statement.
That’s not the end of the story, though, as savedotorg.org write:
This is not the final step needed for protecting the .Org domain. ICANN must now open a public process for bids to find a new home for the .Org domain. ICANN has established processes and criteria that outline how to hold a reassignment process.

Thanks for the update Julian. This is indeed very good news! I signed the new petition too!
