We Love TXP
Hello fellow Textpattern users,
We Love TXP is alive and well and accepting submissions.
This post is a continuation of Sam’s original thread introducing WeLoveTXP back in 2007.
This is from my blog at TXP Make, reprinted with permission.
Change the Look
Spent the day visiting Textpattern sites.
My desire to finish up We Love TXP is driven mostly by curiosity. Where are they now, of those sites still running TXP, and where did they go, of those sites still rendering.
The process is simple, visit the site and see if it still runs Textpattern. A smile comes to my face every time I hit a yellow login screen. 404 on /textpattern, then view source to see what’s up.
Spotting a WordPress site is simple, seen a few other systems, the rest mainly reverted back to HTML, CSS and plenty of JavaScript. Of the Textpattern sites that changed over to WordPress, their designs were just run-of-the-mill Themes. Yes, there were sites that took it to another level, but mainly it was someone wanting to change the look.
Today I visited 84 sites, 53 of them became thumbnails. We Love TXP was handed to me with 1086 sites, 425 are currently archived. The archives are comprised of 358 sites that Peter found issues with, 36 that I flagged in the database, and the 31 that have moved on.
577 sites left on the wall, if one happens to fall, 576 sites left on the wall.

As you can see, it’s going to be a long process to bring We Love TXP around to the new look. Every week I do a little, but with 500+ sites to visit and verify and create thumbnails for, it gets finger numbing after a while.
Along with new submissions, I’m following the Showcase your Textpattern site forum for new arrivals, and if I come across a Textpattern site in my travels around the Net, it gets added also.
There you have it, your showcase site, please send submissions, even if it’s not your site.
Thank you Sam.

Re: We Love TXP
Hello Bert,
it would be nice to be able to search for a site before submitting it, to avoid duplicates. Playing with ?q=some_site
brings rather random results.

I think I’ve mentioned this before, but you could also curl/wget textpattern/checksums.txt
of all the remaining sites to save yourself some browser ball-ache.

@etc, for now, until I can get search going, you can go to the Archive page and do a search with your browser. Search is coming, it’s on the todo list, along with some other enhancements I have in mind.
@gaekwad, automation helps somewhat, but there’s multi-site situations to take into account. Honestly, I started a script and then decided that it’s best to visit each site and see where they headed to. I’m making notes, so that later on down the road, I can contact these individuals who crossed over to WordPress and get them back to TXP, they must be tired of constant updates by now.

Re: We Love TXP
Fine, submitted two sites I have helped with. Unfortunately, I don’t remember other (than etc_search
) plugins used on, but there are certainly a few.

Re: We Love TXP
Visiting the site today, it looks like a bureaucratic requirement was not met and the domain was suspended:
You have reached a domain that is pending ICANN verification.
Why this domain has been suspendedEmail address has not been verified.
This is a new domain registration and the Registrant email address has not been verified.or
The Registrant contact data for this domain was modified but still requires verification.
Specifically the First Name, Last Name and/or email address have been changed and never verified.

Re: We Love TXP
My theory:
- previous owner (Sam Brown) transfers domain to new maintainer (Bert)
whois
email contact address isn’t updated- ICANN email goes to black hole/is ignored/is lost in transit
- verification period elapses
- domain suspended
