Out of the box, default install
Just grabbed Phil’s new admin layout branch, new install, no About section, Textgarden bites the dust.
Looking at what WordPress is doing on their new installs got me to thinking.
This is the WordPress wording on the first post made by the installation:
Hello world!
Welcome to WordPress. This is your first post. Edit or delete it, then start blogging!
The first comment:
Hi, this is a comment.
To delete a comment, just log in and view the post’s comments. There you will have the option to edit or delete them.
Simple, could be used on subsequent installs, no need to mess with it.
So I propose to do the same with the Textpattern default install.
- Simple Hello World! post.
- Move the Getting Started verbiage to somewhere on the main site.
- Provide one link in the sidebar, Getting Started, see above.
- One default category for articles and links.
This way, the setup/txpsql.php becomes much easier to maintain, rev to rev.
Here’s a sample screenshot:

I’m a bit concerned that links
in the sidebar isn’t capitalised – did you change that for your mockup, Bert?

No, it’s the default install. I would change the pithy slogan and a few other things while I’m at it.

It’s a bug feature – I’ve raised it: github.com/textpattern/textpattern/issues/495<txp:text />
appears to be broken.
Edit: pull request to fix this pending – github.com/textpattern/textpacks/pull/90
