Updating from 4.2.0 to 4.5.5

Someone contacted me about a Textpattern website I did 7 years ago —

I kept up on software updates until late 2009 when I was, I guess, cut off.
Apparently the site is still alive and well – and I have been brought in for a user creation rescue and possible updates.

Anything I should know about in updating from 4.2 to 4.5.X ?

One step process?

Many thanks —

I have been a TXP user since 2005!

Re: Updating from 4.2.0 to 4.5.5

I’d do it locally first to be safe or copy into a sub-directory on the server & test there.

Check the live server to see if it has the correct requirements (myql / php etc) for TXP 4.5.X

The only real problems I have had when updating old sites is compatible plugins…. shouldn’t be any other issues.

Re: Updating from 4.2.0 to 4.5.5

+1 for what tye said. I’ve done a core upgrade from 4.2 to 4.5 in the past and everything was fine, but there were no plugins.

Suggestion: if you have the chance, ask the client if they need/use the inbuilt logging – and if not, turn it off (assuming it’s on right now). It’ll help keep the database to a reasonable size.
