Manually add a third category

Hi, I am trying to add a third category in the TXP source and MySQL database. Something quite simple, when you are in Content > Write there would be a Category 3 with dropdown, which can also be called in a form under “txp:category3”. I know there is the plugin rss_unlimited_categories but I’m relying heavily on txp:category1 and txp:category2 tags and don’t know if this plugins can handle them correctly since it’s a multiple select dropdown.

So my preference would be to add it manually in the TXP source code and MySQL database, pretty much the same as with the 10 extra custom fields hack from Gerhard Lazu ( http://archive.gerhardlazu.com/txp/blog/32/10-more-custom-fields-please ). Has this been done before for categories and is there a tutorial available somewhere? Can’t find anything about it.
