Language files in default download
Hi,
Can someone clarify what textpattern/setup/en-gb.php and textpattern/lang/en-gb.txt do?
I assume textpattern/setup/en-gb.php is a fallback for if you have no internet connect and is an exact mirror of what’s on the RPC server for English language.
And textpattern/lang/en-gb.txt is where a user can customise the language strings to whatever they like (and add more)?

Both are fallbacks. /lang/en-gb.txt, in addition to being for fallback, is for (in a sense) backward compatibility too. Textpattern used to use flat text files to store translations (ages ago).

You technically could, if you import it to database after modifying. But I wouldn’t recommend it. The file might not be up-to-date, when imported, replacing newer translations with older.
The /lang/ directory is used as fallback for installing translations. If the server can not connect to the remote rpc server, language files can be installed by placing them to the /textpattern/lang directory and using the Install from file option on the Languages tab.
