category_list: show children & sub-children in sub-menus

txp:category_list produces a flat list of linked categories.

Adi Gilbert offers a nice solution to show a hierarchical category menu with articles (some small quirks, see comments). I used and realized this cat_menu here in the left sidebar: advokathamburg.de (at the moment without listing the articles).

category_list: show children & sub-children in sub-menus

I would love to see that behavior in the TXP core tag <txp:category_list /> realized through additional attributes:
sub_menus="1" (default:0),
menu_levels="n" (default: all),
articles="1" (default: 0)

What do you think?

Hi Markus,

Sorry, I hadn’t realised you’d commented on that TXP Tip – looks like you’ve given it a thorough workout, well done & thanks.

Re: category_list: show children & sub-children in sub-menus

Adi, without your TXPTip it would have taken me at least a day or two to get near that solution. It’s my first ever realized category ‘main menu’ and I only started it because I thought it’s easy to get that nested effect :)

That’s basically why I vote to integrate such an expected output into TXP core.
