new tab to add section and landing page sticky article

Hi,

I am catching up with newer methodologies with regards creating simple admin workflow for clients.

A popular technique seems to be creating custom tabs or dashboards to whip clients off to only the intended places and hiding the rest.

I am picking it up okay but just wanted to check my thinking for allowing clients to add sections.

I don’t want clients to see the section tab so I am using smd_tabber with mem_simple_form to allow clients to add a new section from the tab. I should say I will be using. I forsee no problems getting this part to work.

Where it gets a little convoluted is that a new section requires an associated first sticky article to be useful. The sticky article is used to handle page title, meta data, body content etc for the initial section article lists. (As a side question, has this technique been superceeded? Is there now a better way to add static content to article lists?)

I suppose I could have another link in my custom tab, directly under the create section form, with a select box saying create landing page for … and somehow populate it with a list of sections not returning the crucial sticky article. With any luck that would only be the newly created section so it should be quite straight forward to use.

The way I see it is the create landing page form just automatically sets the title, section and status.

Then it would appear lower down in a form something like ‘edit landing page for…’ and a select box of sections.

How are you guys doing it? I’d prefer to build it right once than be jealous of somebody elses more elegant solution and have to tear it all out.

Thanks loads for any pointers,
best,
Mike
