Update from 4.0.4
Hi Guys,
well, a client of mine has a textpattern installation but the version is 4.0.4. so i think i should update. well my question is now how?
I’ve found this article http://textbook.textpattern.net/wiki/index.php?title=Upgrading_to_a_New_Version but as far as i can judge the whole file organisation has been altered completely since this 4.0.4 installation. I wonder if there are any further steps i have to take, beside uploading the new textpattern files or if i have to do this step by step.
Thank you for helping!

Re: Update from 4.0.4
Hi
before upgradding logout from admin side (password hach has been changed)
Then upload all files and directories from txp 4.4.1 archive, then go to http://yoursite.com/textpattern login, upgrade language like suggested
Look at diagnotic tab to see if all is ok, and thats all
Make a backup before that and check you use latest plugin version if any
Cheers

Re: Update from 4.0.4
Worth Noting:
One of the versions throws an error message on first login (some data field is missing warning, IIRCC). Reload the page and that error should go away.

Re: Update from 4.0.4
Thank you for your help… i’ve tried it locally. Saved all the old files, extracted the new ones into the directory, overwrote all conflicted files. Then i went to /textpattern and some errors occured. Nevertheless i could login and update and the errors disappeared.
But when i go to the page, i get “404 Not Found”.
The Diagnostics say:
File directory path is not writable: ******/******/****** -> seems to be wrong config for localhost somewhere
Temporary directory path is not writable: /tmp ? -> should be another directory on localhost i think
—————————
*******************\textpattern\setup\ still exists ? -> localhost so should be no problem
—————————
Site URL preference might be incorrect : localhost\************ ? -> should be okay i think…

Clean URL test failed. -> ???

Re: Update from 4.0.4
So i got rid of the errors except the clean url one.
Any ideas? My page seems to be working fine now. No more 404’s.

It shouldn’t worry you if this is just on localhost. Clean urls rely on the htaccess file so – once online – your site should work just fine (back-up everything before you upgrade on a live site).
If you use a mac the htaccess file is invisible as it starts with a dot so you may not have placed it in the folder. Check out Where can I download .htacccess? in the FAQ. If this is not the case can you please post your diagnostics?
