So very sad to miss this meetup after working close by for years but I am on the other side of the pond these days. If you folks want to eat some seriously good British food too (Porterhouse is an Irish pub, nothing wrong with that but it’s, well, Irish) while you are close by then check out Rules Restaurant a little farther along Maiden Lane. Mouth now watering remembering “Grilled Calves Liver with crisp bacon, sage & mustard mash” followed by “Golden Syrup Pudding with custard”.

Thanks for the cuisine tip Joe. If we tire of microwave meals and Guinness then it sounds like a good option! Although with London prices, hmmmm, perhaps sandwiches are preferable. If I’ve been rambling around the city with the camera all morning I might grab a bite on the way to the pub anyway.
And looking at the list of engineering works on the underground this weekend, it appears there might be a lot of walking :-|

Well, I have decided to pass this opportunity up – Cyprus for a long weekend next week, then South Africa for the whole week (work) plus I’m saving up my London trip to see the Distraction Club.
I expect their will be a new plugin come out of this… something along the lines of smd_event_in_pub, with live cross-checking of any transport disruptions, tracks who bought which rounds, and shows it all on a fancy chart.

Thanks Els, I really enjoyed myself. Lovely to meet some different folk.
Thanks to all who came, including the surprise Canadian contingent: awesome! Please e-mail me any decent photos and / or copy text from things you may have talked about that I wasn’t party to (or might have forgotten to include) and I’ll amalgamate it all into a blog post. Watch the usual G+ / FB channels too for tidbits.

I can make it down there any time within reason. Given a good few weeks’ notice it’s dead cheap to buy tickets in advance for the train. Pick a date, start a thread and we’ll see if we can drum up some interest.
