[Request] Tagging support and unlimited categories
I really love Textpattern, but i miss tagging support and unlimited categories. tru_tags and rss_unlimited_categories are outdated and slow. Textpattern need a build-in solution!

Re: [Request] Tagging support and unlimited categories
I agree. One of the projects I worked on in the past would have been impossible if not for rss_unlimited_categories. Thankfully I’ve never had to update it to the latest version of Textpattern.

yup I agree… and luckily I think this is already a high priority with the devs for TXP5

You really really REALLY should update to the latest TXP version.

I am fine with two categories :)
And tru_tags for tagging is neither outdated nor slow. The big compatibility advantage is the usage of the core keyword field.
Maybe you should give Blokes smd_tags a try? The extra cost is an extra table and an extra field not syncing with keywords.
And yes, a core solution for both would be a fine thing.

If memory serves me correctly it’s using version: 4.0.6 (r2805). The only problem is I’m no longer employed by the charity that commissioned me to design the website.
I’m fairly certain they wouldn’t be willing to pay for my time upgrading to the latest version of TXP. I’ve heard on the grapevine they’ve employed another company to redesign the site from scratch. If I did upgrade my main worry would be that it would break rss_unlimited_categories and thus render the website unusable.
Not that i’m wanting to derail this thread but how do you handle the upgrading past clients TXP powered sites?

Re: [Request] Tagging support and unlimited categories
You could copy the website to a test location and first try upgrading that to see if any problems occur. Once you know what the problems are (if any) and how to fix them, you can upgrade the main website.
If they’re not willing you pay you, they should at least pay someone to upgrade TXP immediately ;)

Thanks Rudd. I’ll give them a call and see what they have to say.

Sure, you can make it work via gymnastics and machinations, but nothing in this universe can be described by two attributes alone.

Re. universe: Categories are not attributes but common (!) content structure elements. Example: Fauna & flora, terrestrial & extraterrestrial, …
The more attributes I have to (!) add, the more I must use a taxonomy aka flat TXP keywords aka tru_tags. I am also very happy that TXP doesn’t support any kind of content tree structure.

Categories are not attributes but common (!) content structure elements. Example: Fauna & flora, terrestrial & extraterrestrial
I simply want structured universal taxonomy complete with relationships, implemented in away that uses and is accessed with txp:tags and url schemes.
