msd_minibar: Adds a Microsoft Office style "minibar" to the Write tab
Adds a Microsoft Office style “minibar” to the Write tab based on an article by JANKO and an idea from the forums.

BTW, how often do you see free minibars these days? Sheesh.

This is an Open minibar since you can add more buttons.

Hey Matt,
I had an idea:
You type in alt text, then highlight it. Then click “img” on the minibar, and it asks you for an image ID. Click OK and you get a tag with the id and alt text in it.
That gives simple image capability to the minibar (I’d guess most will use it instead of any other type of bar) and maybe makes alt tags more popular. :-)

Wouldn’t this require the url to the image and not just the image id?
Textile Image with alt =
!/common/textist.gif(Textist)!I’ve added this featurein v 0.5 implemented this way.

Re: msd_minibar: Adds a Microsoft Office style "minibar" to the Write tab
This plugin is useful, but I’m having some quirk behavior:
- When used on a long article, it “looses the line”. That is, after insertin a bold or a link, I jump to the start of the article in the textarea, having to scroll down again finding where I was…
- Sometimes the overlay minibar is persistent when you’d not want it to be. If I select a piece of text to change it, the minibar shows up and doesn’t go away until I click. Partially hiding my writing. Is there any way to have it disappear on keypress, to say? Or on some elapsed time base, don’t know.
Not sure if this is only happening on my installs/browser (safari and firefox), or if anyone else find this annoying. Just throwing my personal experience in.

I’d noticed the persistence issue as well. Unfortunatly since all I did was turn someone else’s javascript into this plugin I’m not sure I’ll be able to fix or improve how those parts work.

I see. Just for trying, I added this:
$("#body").keydown(function() {
$("#msd_menu").fadeOut("1000");
});
After the similar function triggered by mousedown, and it seems to work. Now I can press on arrows keys (or simply type some text) if I want the minibar to disappear, fair enough. I haven’t intensively tested it, maybe you may consider evaluating too. If I find problems I’ll report back here.
