category_list links query

i might be missing something basic here, but i’m stumped.

by default, category_list outputs links like this:

acme-saucepans.com/category/big-saucepans
acme-saucepans.com/category/small-saucepans

however, within a section, articles with a particular category can be accessed like this:

acme-saucepans.com/all-saucepans/?c=big-saucepans
acme-saucepans.com/all-saucepans/?c=small-saucepans

is there any way to get category_list to output links in the style of the second link here? i.e., without the links ‘leaving’ the section that the list is being used in?
