Multilingual support
Probably been suggested before, but I’ll do it again then.
There’s no easy way to make multilingual websites with TXP unless you use a plugin/extension. Multilingual support in core would solve the problem of a plugin/extension going abandonware, especially when there’s only 1 plugin/extension available.
Or provide better integration for an extension.

Correct(ish). See below.

We already support a multi-lingual admin-side experience. For public side languages, MLP is the biggest and best at the moment, but there is a poor man’s MLP which is enough for some folk. And there’s nothing to stop anybody taking MLP and improving it, or making their own.
As Els (a non-English native!) and others have said, multi-lingual sites can be argued more of a niche feature than a core feature. Being a one-language kind of person I’m not qualified to comment. But at the moment I’m not sure the effort of taking the entire MLP code base (even distilled) and putting it in the core is worth it for the number of people that will use it. I may be very wrong, so don’t take my word for it. And never say never.
So, as of right now, it’s not on my hit list given that MLP does an exceptional job already for those that need it. Having said that…

Yes, that’s always our goal; to offload such extension work to plugins. We are always open to patches or ideas that allow us to ease the job of integrating MLP (or something similar) into your sites. I agree that, as it stands, having to patch files is not ideal and I would love to revisit this some day and find a way to make it simpler to integrate. But our time is limited and this feature is not the highest priority right now.
Priorities can change with demand and community effort. Maybe you can help? If you have any code or concrete ideas for this type of thing, then please share: it may help us to help you.
