Image Plugin Suggestions
Hi all!
I’m trying to figure out how to display varying numbers of images with captions underneath in my articles. Some searching for plugins has already brought up the (as I assume) “usual suspects” (soo_image, yap_image, upm_image, …). But they all seem to aim for galleries, whereas I would be happy with an extended standard textile image command.
So my question is, which plugin would you recommend for my purposes? A (secondary) bonus would be a solution with as little additional code in my articles as possible. But that’s really not crucial…
Thanks a lot in advance!

Re: Image Plugin Suggestions
I think you’re asking for purely Textile syntax to retrieve not only an image but also its caption from the Txp database? If so, Textile isn’t going to be able to do it. Textile doesn’t talk to the database. (It is a semi-independent project with a life outside Txp.)
If you can wait for the Txp 4.3.0 stable release, or are willing to use it as is now, as Els points out you won’t need a plugin to retrieve image captions. You can create a form with the image and caption arranged as you like, then in an article add something like <txp:image_list form="captioned" id="43" />
.

Re: Image Plugin Suggestions
Ha, never thought about using a simple form – doing code-work in the middle of the night DOES have drawbacks… ;)
Thanks for the suggestion!

Ah, sorry, I missed the Textile part. If I understand you correctly now, and if you don’t want to upgrade yet, you should also be able to do that with upm_img_popper in combination with upm_image. ump_img_popper lets you define a form for your image, in which you can place the image as well as the caption.

Re: Image Plugin Suggestions
How advisable would an upgrade be right now (on a business website)?

Re: Image Plugin Suggestions
I would wait for the final release version and go with Els’ suggestion instead, if you need something now. I’ve used both upm_image and ump_img_popper for years and they will do exactly what you want.

I’m not a Txp dev, so take this for what it’s worth, grain of salt, YMMV, etc.
IMO 4.3.0 rc1 is stable and usable as to standard (i.e., pre-4.3.0) features. However, given that we are talking about the new image tags, I suspect that is an area where there could still be change between now and the final 4.3.0 release. I say this having just submitted a patch for image_list
and article_image
. If there are changes, I doubt it would be anything difficult to adapt to, if any such adaptation were even necessary. But that depends on exactly what you might do with the new features.
You should certainly read over the release notes and feedback thread.
