Record custom information while writing, on the fly

How can I store in database more information related to the current article on the fly?

For example:
Writing an article for a car. I want to store all type of engines avaiable for this car.
I’d like to store information without use custom fields.

I imagine a lightboxed window that let me insert row (record) and column (value) on the fly to store in database related to the article.
After using a form a can style values and record.

Can someone tell me if it’s possible?

Re: Record custom information while writing, on the fly

I’d like to store information without use custom fields.

Why?

Well if custom fields are viable: It does sound like a job for glz_custom_fields
Gil Goldschlager did some neat things with custom fields and wrote about it over at txptips
