sites with public and private portions with a forum

working on the basic architecture of a site. The question of authentication arose. The site has three areas. Public, private, and forum. The private and forum areas will be protected by password. My current thinking is that I want to use the same username/password for both private and forum sections. I can live with them being separate if I actually have to. the current set of questions I have are:

What forums integrate best with textpattern?
Is it possible to share authentication credentials between textpattern and Web BBSs?
If it’s not possible, how difficult is it to “share” the credential entry and change processes to try and keep them in sync? (Yes, I know, it depends on the BBS. :-)

I appreciate your patience. textpattern is an interesting framework. I’ve been very impressed by the work people do with it. Most of my work with frameworks has focused on “design something usable by a disabled user using speech recognition”. I succeeded really well but it’s definitely different from what a keyboard user would expect. maybe someday I’ll publish.

Many thanks
