SURVEY:No. of Pages TXP handles and Any major architecture changes?

Hi,

Planning to offer TXP to my customers as one of the main CMS of choice for them, the answer to these are quite important.

A) Can TXP handle huge no. pages without problems?

I’d love to get a quick check on the number of pages TXP can handle without any performance issues, even though I know this may depend on the type of hosting you’ve signed up for.

Maybe a quick formated reply:

(Shared Server, Dedicated Server) / (no. of pages) / (fast , slow , no problems, page load average under 2 seconds, etc.)

e.g.

Shared Server / 600 pages / no problems

B) Also are there any planned major changes to the architecture of txp?

I’m asking this because I need to know if there will be any upgrade nightmares that may be affected by any planned major overhaul of txp’s structure, or core designs in the near or far future?

Any changes to the way custom themes are integrated into txp?

Regards,
HN

I’m in a shared server with over 1000 pages without any problems. txp does not have such limitations, Server speeds do.

Re: SURVEY:No. of Pages TXP handles and Any major architecture changes?

It’s always hard to say what number of pages any system can serve because this depends on so many factors. Plus, what consists a page? Is a page an article for you or does any one page contain more than one article (affects the number of SQL queries significantly).

asy_jpcache will allow you to create statically cached files, which is the way most really big CMS solve performance issues (think eZ Publish, Typo3, etc). This will probably help you with your speed.

Adding this functionality to core has “already been discussed here:“http://forum.textpattern.com/viewtopic.php?id=30775

To add at least one helpful comment, here’s what I’d do. I’d have a fresh txp install, use the Firefox extension iMacros to create a large number of articles. Then I’d let siege (preferred) or ab (quick and dirty) or jMeter (never really liked it) hammer the server and see what can be done and where the server will stop serving.
