upgrade & plugin; creating test environment

I will be upgrading from 4.0.5 to 4.2.0. — We are using version 0.4 of stw_category_tree. (When I took over, TXP was back at 1.x and for a variety of reasons, I had to keep this plugin at 0.4, – the newer version of stw created total havoc.)

Is anyone else out there in a similar situation?

Second item is about setting up a test area. I don’t have access to another machine so I’d have to do this alongside the live version. Would the following be sufficient to accomplish this?

1. Make a copy of /live-website to /test-website.
2. Create a 2nd (test) database and load a mysqldump of the live database in it.
3. Copy over live txp config to /test-website/txp/textpattern/config.php. Change path and db information from live to test.

I see that I need to change “txpath” in config.php, — do I need to get into admin tool and also change “site URL”?

Where do I update file_base_path preference?

In Advanced Preferences it’s labeled “File directory path”. Site URL is in Basic Preferences. There are a couple of other paths in Advanced Preferences that you may or may not need to update.

I set up my test environment successfully, and upgraded the 4.0.5 TXP to 4.2.0 in test. — Everything is fine! All looks the same on the website, the stw_category_tree plugin still works fine.
