Local ⇔ Live synchronization

I have no idea whatsoever if this can be done or how you would go about doing it, but I keep a local site going for all projects, and because of offline tinkering I constantly have the problem of local versions having progressed presentation changes while live versions have progressed content (due to post publishing edits and reader comments). In other words, the sister versions are never in sync and it becomes somewhat complicated to get them back that way (only for them to wander off again).

It would be super awesome if there was a way to sync from local to live or from live to local, whichever way you wanted/needed to go at any given time, instead of having to relearn mysql command line magic every time to import partial databases (whether just articles, styles, accounts…whatever).

Something like this possible?

Re: Local ⇔ Live synchronization

I’ve actually been thinking of similar functionality to allow clients to have a private staging serve. For content/design development that can the be “published” to the live server.

Could be possible using the XML-rpc serve but I haven’t gotten very far with fleshing it out yet and seeying how that plays with plugins.
