Can I get link_id with TXP 4.0.8?
I blithely tried to use <txp:link_id /> in a site, only to realize it was added in 4.2…Is there anyway to output the ID in 4.0.8? I just don’t have the time to upgrade the site right now.

Try copying the link_id() function in publish/taghandlers.php from Txp 4.2.0 to your 4.0.8 installation.
